GENERAL INFORMATION

• Iron is essential for the production of haemoglobin, the red blood pigment needed for the transport of oxygen around the body.
• A lack of iron can result in anaemia, the symptoms of which are a sore tongue, fatigue, pale skin and loss of appetite.
• Low iron levels in the body may also cause poor skin tone and dull looking hair.
• Menstruating women are particularly vulnerable to iron deficiency.
• Iron is needed for the proper metabolism of B Vitamins.
• Vitamin C is needed for the assimilation of iron.
• Large amounts of tea and coffee block absorption of iron.
• The chelated form of iron in which the mineral is bound with an amino acid is easier to absorb.

SUGGESTED DAILY INTAKE; one capsule with a meal.

Contra-indications and side effects
May cause constipation in which case intake should be stopped and then reintroduced at a lower level and increased gradually. Taking vitamin C with the iron may help avoid constipation.
Iron is antagonistic to zinc, which means excess iron may unbalance zinc levels. It is advisable therefore, not to take iron in isolation but with a multi mineral formula.
